An Insight into Atenas.

| "Not a very big town, but very nice indeed" |
Atenas is a pleasant, friendly and small city near to Alajuela. This
town is becoming a favorite for gringos looking to retire. It is less than an hour west of the capital San Jose
and on the main route
to the Pacific. Atenas is an agricultural town renowned for its quality
fruits and perpetually spring like climate (National Geographic declared
it the "best climate in the world" a few years back).
The small city
has the Central American School of Animal Husbandry that is pioneering
in agro-ecotourism and welcomes visitors with important reforest programs
and (we are told but have not yet seen) Iguana farming. There is a place
which offers horseback riding, tree climbing and rappelling and perhaps
you would like to enjoy a coup of coffee in the "estación" or old train station.
