An Insight into Cocos Island

"A lot of sharks"

Talk about the "road less traveled" - our vans would need some pretty impressive snorkelling capability to get the 450km to Cocos - a large island in the Pacific. This is a protected island with nobody except park guards and a few thousand pigs.

This is a divers heaven - renowned as one of the best diving spots on the planet.

Cocos is the setting for Jurasic Park and though it isn't very big (six miles by one) a B-24 flew into the side of it during World War II, and they only found it about 10 years ago.

Some unique species of birds also inhabit this very remote island that used to be a prison colony a couple of hundred years ago. Did we mention an enormous shark population?
