An Insight into Coto Lake

"An Arenal Wind Surfer"

Just north of Arenal (north of the town of Nuevo Arenal) on the "road definitely less traveled" is the Coto Lake.

This is a heart shaped natural lake which is in an extinct crater (some locals call it a "bottomless pit" and flying saucers have been seen over the lake).

It is very beautiful and no more than 1/2 a mile wide. Road access needs an arrangement with the Eco Adventure lodge near the lake. They also have a nice canopy tour run by the lodge. Good for fishing including rainbow bass so we are told and the locals say and wind surfing can be better than lake Arenal.

If you are in the area we can recommend Chalet Nicholas close by at Nuevo Arenal Your hosts Cathy & John are experts in their neighborhood and you won't find a nicer couple in Costa Rica to look after your stay. Make sure you take John's "walk in the forest" - we saw some beautiful Morphos on our last trip.
