An Insight into Damas

"Kayaking in the Damas Estuary"

The Waters of the rivers Palo Seco and Damas form braided channels behind the coast. But what do these amazingly beautiful braided channels get you?

You will find this a great place to kayak - in the mangroves of the estuary of the Damas. Isla Damas lies across the 400 meter-wide estuary and is reached by boat but most visitors (the few there are) use this area to explore the mangroves.

On our last trip to Damas we took a lovely kayak trip with a guide into the mangrove swamps.

This is highly recommended - among the wildlife we encountered on our last trip, a very large

boa constrictor curled in a tree and a couple of troops of friendly capuchin monkeys - in fact the only place where we found them to be so happy and friendly. Wear a bunch of Deet as the mosquitoes are impressive.

Damas is just north of Quepos and an easy place to reach from the main road heading to Quepos.
