An Insight into Drake Bay, northern tip of the Osa Peninsula
|
| "Coatimundi 10 feet from us" |
You usually arrive at Drake bay by small plane on a landing strip where
the pilots "won't land if both ends are under water".
This landing
strip gives tourists access to the few lodges dotted along 10km or so
of coast line towards the magnificent Corcovado National Park.
The
coast has changed little since Sir Francis Drake landed there in March
1579 - it is still beautiful and still very remote. Near to Drake bay
is the local village where they make the famous stitched and colorful

molas you have probably never heard of (so just how did they become
famous - hey, that's why WE are the guides!). You could buy these in
a gift shop but why not find the source in this very remote outpost in
the jungle?
Without question, our most memorable jungle moments in Costa Rica occured
during our stay at Drake Bay and our walk into the Corcovado Rain Forest.
The proliferation of wild life will provide you pause for thought about
why it is so important to tread lightly on this beautiful planet.

| "A Dolphin frolic near Drake Bay" |
Oh! Did we mention swimming with the wild dolphins and whales?
I didn't think so - but this area is teeming with ocean life as well
as jungle life. This is not your tame zoo setting so don't expect someone
to control the animals - but once out in THEIR ocean,
if THEY want to see you they will be right on over.
We remain hopeful for the future of the planet if places such as this can still exist!
