An Insight into Esaparza

"The town of"

Just 15km east of Puntarenas is this little town which most people just pass right through. This is a perfect place to stop for soda, fruits and Gallo Pinto (typical food) according to one guide book.

The locals claim their mangos are very good and they are correct - this area over to Orotina and beyond is the center of mango growing in Costa Rica. If you are visiting in March to July you should find some in season.

As our manager discovered a little while ago Esparza is not a good place to break down as the local mechanic couldn't fix his car for 3 weeks.

Esparza is also the location of a hidden shortcut (no signs to San Carlos) for those returning from the beach to the central valley - the road ahead can be clogged for a couple of hours with cement trucks doing 5mph up hill for many miles. Wasn't San Carlos the setting for the Woody Allen movie where he becomes inadvertent president of a banana republic in centro-america?

What else can we say about Esparza (if we lived there, perhaps quite a lot) . . . but for now, it is a place you are likely to go "through" rather than "to".
