An Insight into Guaitil

"Sterling at Guaitil pottery"

This is a charming little village a few kilometers off the main highway to the Northern Guanacaste beach towns. Turn off just before Santa Cruz and you will soon pass cow pastures and then little pottery kilns in local back yards.

Stop and chat with the potters (the ones on the road to town don't get too many visitors). Continue on to the tranquil little village surrounding a soccer field. Some of the inhabitants are descendants of the Chorotega indigenous people. They have been making the unique pottery of red or black or ocher using the same methods for generations in this village. Shop in the village or just meet with the people on a stroll around the town. This is a very nice stopover on the way to the coast on the "road less traveled".

On your way out of town stop for lunch at Fatima's solar collective at "Sol Verde" and learn about her 150 solar ovens and the efforts to support a more sustainable lifestyle locally.
