An Insight into Puerto Jimenez

According to one guide book, "this is the largest town in the Osa Peninsula". Actually it more resembles a bustling one-horse town from some tropical wild west of another era. We love the place.

On our visit there was a horse tied up in front of a local "saloon". Some may think of it as a one-iguana town? There are some very nice hotels in the area as well as one of our favorite restaurants and a great sunset kayak of the mangroves and the "sweet bay" - Golfo Dulce. As the Frommers Guide notes "with a history of being a key gold mining and logging town before the Corcovado National Park was created, the locals in the area still log and mine gold here, but in much smaller numbers as this entire region is now a protected habitat.

In and around the Puerto Jimenez, there is much to see and do. Sport fishing excursions can be arranged, while for the more adventurous, hiking, mountain biking and kayaking tours are on hand or simply sit on the beach to view some of the most amazing sunsets in all of Costa Rica." We enjoyed our stay here, one of the best dinners in Costa Rica and a very nice sunset kayak tour.
