An Insight into Santa Rosa National Park

"From La Colina"
"The largest swath of tropical dry forest in Central America" This place is important and famous for beautiful flora and fauna and is one of the last dry forests left on the planet. But what's the big deal? Santa Rosa and the bigger GNP (Guanacaste National Park) are part of a vast successful experiment in tropical ecology conducted by a brave bunch of Ticos let by the legendary Dan Janzen. The story of this transformation is recounted in the delightful "The Green Phoenix", a worthy read before you get here. Santa Rosa was a farm located in the Guanacaste Province and it is now a National Park - here you will find echoes of the battle won by the Costa Rica Army in 1856 over the forces of filibuster William Walker who was intent on turning Costa Rica and much of Central America into slaving states.
